I am a reserved young lady studying towards a Bachelor’s degree in Education. I’m passionate about education, mental and physical health and body positivity. I have been skinny my entire life. I was teased about it for quite some time and it led to years of hatred towards my body. Getting into fitness has changed the relationship I have with my body and the way I approach conscious and unconscious self-talk. Fitness helped me fall in love with every inch of my body and it has allowed me to appreciate the beauty and transformations of my life and my body in ways I never thought possible. I am a full-time student at the University of the Free State, a mental health peer educator, athletic sprinter and a peer educator leader. I believe that if a shy, ordinary small town girl like me can weather so many storms, so can anyone else. Fitness has helped me overcome a lot of my fears and break free from a closed mind.

How does fitness fit into your lifestyle?
I train 4 times a week with the athletics team on campus and get in solo workouts 5 times a week before athletics training. Fitness has given me a huge boost in confidence. I’m happier and it has helped me fall in love and accept my body. Fitness has become a huge part of me because it helped me deal with depression, insomnia, self-harm and suicidal tendencies. It has literally saved my life. Working on my body and mind has been the most rewarding thing I have ever done for myself.
What are your personal fitness goals?
My fitness goals are to lead a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Fitness has become my life. The goal is to be mentally, spiritually and physically fit to a point where I radiate positivity in my own life and the lives of those I inspire. I live each day to become a better version of myself. My other goal includes inspiring and empowering people and helping them understand what fitness is about and how much of a difference it can make in one’s life, while helping people see that their fitness goals are valid, valued and attainable. Stepping out of my comfort zone has been an exhilarating experience and I will forever strive for what is best for me.
