What are your personal fitness goals?
Covid-19 pushed back my plans to compete in MMA by a year and I don’t feel like I have all that many years left to fight. I plan to represent my country on a world stage in 2021.
How will you use your #BiogenFaceOfFitness ambassadorship to inspire women to lead a healthy / fit lifestyle if you win?
I am hugely passionate about empowering women. I do this through the health coaching that I offer and also through the self-defense courses that I teach. Last year I organised the first of its kind, women’s-only fight night to raise awareness and funds for GBV. I was the headline fight and together we raised R80,000 for charity. I would like to take my passion for empowering women in both the fighting and yoga space to the next level. I don’t believe that access to wellness should be a matter of privilege. Everyone deserves to feel well and strong. I would like to amplify my outreach initiatives and I believe that the Biogen Face of Fitness platform and the prize money will enable me to do that.
What health and fitness quote or mantra do you live by?
“Make time for your health and wellness when you are young or you will have to make time for disease and illness when you are old.”
Any noteworthy sporting or fitness achievements we should know about?
In 2017, I was selected as part of the national team to compete at the Africa Jiu-Jitsu Open in Morocco. In 2018 I won Gold at Alpha grappling champs and silver at ADCC. In 2019, I went 2-0 in MMA and became the PFC Strawweight Women’s Champ. I also made the Western Province MMA team.
Tell us about your fitness lifestyle
My family and I live a very active lifestyle naturally. We run a gym, which means I’m active throughout the day teaching my clients. When we’re not teaching, we train as a family. My weekly training involves a mix of boxing, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Animal Flow, yoga and weight training. When we’re not in the gym, we enjoy the outside beauty that Cape Town has to offer.
Why do you think you’re the Biogen Face of Fitness?
I believe that I epitomise what it means to be a balanced, strong, healthy woman. I’m a successful entrepreneur and fighter, a yoga teacher and a mom. I am a synergy of masculine and feminine energy. As a coach, I help women rediscover their BOSS selves – Balanced, Optimal, Strong and Sexy. I strive to embody this for myself as well as my clients. I believe that the Biogen Face of Fitness is about being your BOSS self too! As a recovered drug addict who used sport, health, wellness and fitness to beat my addiction and maintain my sobriety, I hope to use this competition to show other women that it is never too late to start again, and you are never too old to put your health first.
